Understanding the Problem
Long-distance relationships are common today, yet they seem to not last. To better get a sense of this, our team conducted a white paper research to gather quick statistics on LDR. Here are the statistics from surviveldr.com:
14 Million
LDR couples in the U.S.
4.5 Months
Average length of LDR
35%
Breakup Rate of LDR
Listening Directly to LDR Couples
We've conducted user research interviews to hear firsthand from individuals who are currently in long-distance relationships and those who have been in one in the past to hear their experiences.
Contextualizing the Target User

Our target users for this project are couples in long-distance relationships seeking wholesome, interactive bonding activities to bridge the gap.

Design Challenge
Long-distance couples lack a personalized digital platform where they can engage in interactive shared activities, leading to feelings of disconnection and boredom in their relationship.
Analyzing the Competitors
We analyzed the services currently available in the market for LDR couples, seeking opportunities to provide innovative solutions that enhance their experience.
What the Competitors Lack
The competitors lack a virtual dating experience for long-distance relationship couples to participate in shared activities.
Focusing on Couple-Centric Features
We want to focus our features in helping LDR couples create meaningful bonding experience to strengthen their emotional connection.
Pushing Our Features Further
What If long-distance couples can be in the same space through augmented reality?
Navigating the App
After establishing the features, I've developed a user flow that illustrates the steps Jenny, our user persona, would follow to access the highlight feature of our app: the AR date.
Sketching Redesign Concepts
I sketched out sections of the website and annotated the current site, highlighting modifications, deletions, and additions to visualize the redesigned website.

Exploring a Modern Branding
Before starting the high-fidelity prototype, we created a moodboard to establish a visual direction and style of the project.
Iterating Based on User Feedback
We focused on making the features more accessible to the user, incorporating user insights and preferences to enhance usability and overall user satisfaction.
Going Through the Design Solution
Our solution is dedicated to providing an online digital dating space for long-distance relationship (LDR) couples, where they can communicate, engage in interactive activities together, and plan their future.

A Romantic Minimalist Style
Our goal is to ignite romance for LDR couples through a clean, minimalist design that emphasizes emotional connections and intimacy while maintaining an elegant user experience.
What I've Learned
This project has significantly pushed my boundaries and encouraged me to think outside the box in terms of how I can bring augmented reality to life. On that note, here are the things I've learned:
Explore New Design Trends
Learning augmented reality design was a self-taught adventure for me. At the start, I had my doubts about my abilities, but stepping out of my comfort zone helped me grow as a designer.
Actively Seek Feedback From Users
Seeking user feedback is crucial because they notice things you might miss. It also helps me remember that I’m not that user, and keeps me grounded in the user's perspective.
Strive for Constant Improvement
Great designs are never finished; there's always room for improvement. Be it through user feedback or new design trends, which is why it's vital to keep growing as a designer.
Thanks for stopping by!
I hope you have a good day  :)
